Pfizer announces Phase 3 trial results evaluating whether Paxlovid treatment reduces the risk of developing long COVID symptoms in high-risk patients.

Respiratory disease research

Pfizer today announced results from a Phase 3 trial evaluating whether Paxlovid (nirmatrelvir/ritonavir) treatment reduces the risk of developing post-acute sequelae of COVID-19 (long COVID) in high-risk patients. The trial demonstrated that early treatment with Paxlovid was associated with a reduction in the risk of developing persistent symptoms at 6 months compared to placebo. These findings suggest that early antiviral treatment may have benefits beyond acute COVID-19 treatment.
